Spithari is a collective formed by six individuals after the Syntagma square incidents. They decided to revivify a land destroyed by the fires of 2009, with the spark (in Greek: spitha) of a different perception of reality and a value system based on human relationships of equality, cooperativeness and a symbiotic relationship with nature and its resources. The Spithari project can be included in a global movement of people at grass-roots level, beyond political parties and ideologies, who try to self-manage their lives armed with free flow of information, networking and peer production. To us, the jar (in greek: pithari) symbolizes the key factors that can help us surpass the existing failing socio-economic system: sustainability and self-sufficiency (alimentary, energy, housing). So we constitute a field of research and application of open source sustainability technologies as well as a space open to people interested in learning from and to us.
